Manufacturing Africa and Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) Forge Partnership to Empower Tanzanian Manufacturers

The Manufacturing Africa programme has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) aimed at significantly bolstering Tanzania’s manufacturing sector. This strategic partnership will enhance access to financing for local manufacturers and foster collaboration for the sector’s development.

The signing ceremony, which took place on 23rd July 2024, marks a pivotal moment for Tanzania’s industrial landscape. Engineer Leodegar Tenga, Executive Director of CTI, expressed optimism about the partnership. He urged local manufacturers to seize this opportunity to secure essential capital from the global finance ecosystem, which could catalyze substantial growth and innovation in the sector.

Ali Selemani, a member of the Manufacturing Africa Delivery Team in Tanzania, underscored the sector’s vital role in the country’s development. He highlighted Manufacturing Africa’s commitment to helping local manufacturers scale their operations sustainably, aligning with broader economic and environmental goals.

FCDO Advisor for Manufacturing Africa in Tanzania Ms. Priti Prajapati was also present to witness the events of the day.

High-Level Engagement and Dialogue

The MoU signing coincided with a high-level Industrial Dialogue on Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 and the launch of the 18th President’s Manufacturer of the Year Awards (PMAYA). The event brought together thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss the future of Tanzania’s industrial sector.

Manufacturing Africa also participated at the event as a panelist for the industrial talk alongside thought leaders and notable industrialists from Tanzania such as Yogesh Manek, Uledi Mussa, Col. Simbakalia, Paul Makanza, and Prof. Wangwe. The panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Lawrence Mafuru, Executive Secretary of the Planning Commission.

The Chief Guest, Hon. Prof Kitila Mkumbo, Minister for State in the Office of the President, Planning and Investment, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the strategic importance of industrial development. He stated, “Investment in industrial development will be a strategic priority in the Development Vision 2050 to build local production capacity and reduce dependency on imported goods.”
